$1.7M Verdict in Billings Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

Posted on February 22nd, 2011 No Comments

A jury in Montana has awarded a woman and her four children a $1.7 million verdict in a medical malpractice lawsuit

According to court documents, Amy Heidt filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Billings Clinic and Dr. Faranak Argani over the 2005 death of her husband, Gerry. Heidt’s attorneys claim that Argani misdiagnosed Gerry’s chest pain as a torn muscle, rather than acute pain caused by a leaking heart valve.

The lawsuit contends that Argani should have referred Heidt to a heart specialist. Heidt’s representation argued that Gerry died a year later because he did not receive a replacement valve. He was 42 years-old.

Attorney for Argani and Billings Clinic, John Russell, declined to comment on the case other than to say Argani is still practicing at Billings Clinic.

Pennsylvania Authorities: Abortion Clinic

Posted on March 10th, 2010 No Comments

State authorities in Pennsylvania have suspended the license of a doctor who performed abortions, citing the death of a recent patient.

Philadelphia Dr. Kermit Gosnell's license was temporarily suspended this week after investigators encountered "deplorable and unsanitary" conditions at his clinic. Investigators cited blood on the floor, fetus parts in jars, and a recovery area consisting of recliners.

The 69 year-old Gosnell has been named in more than forty lawsuits in the last 20 years. Ten of the claims have been medical malpractice suits.

State authorities labeled Gosnell "an immediate and clear danger to the public."
